I was worried that my baby would never talk. His first words were "all gone" spoken in perfect English and "det dow" for get down. Those are the only two phrases he said for seven months. At 18 months he has yet to look at me and say "mama", but he'll pull on the handle of the refrigerator and yell "co co muk" when he want's his chocolate milk.
I reinforce by asking, "Do you want your cocoa milk?" which sends the dog into a hysterical frenzy. He comes from anywhere he is in the house with a high pitched wine, runs past the refrigerator, (Drew yells "DET DOW!") stops by the back door and shakes uncontrollably for like ten minutes. Meanwhile the hair is leaping out of his body and piling up on the floor in black drifts.
I had to shave him. Not bald or anything, but his fur is now only 1/4" long. He's sporting stripes up his back from the clippers. The other dogs in the neighborhood are pointing and laughing all because Drew needs his co co muk.
I'm just a girl trying to find her own custom groove in this world without bending to the expectations of others.

I know what you mean. John is just now starting to say a good many words. He cracks us up on a daily basis.
My sister is worried about her 2 year old. She says words and the words she says are clear...but she doesn't string together sentences. But good lawd that girl understands everything that comes out of our mouths. That is scary!
GoldenBoy had the razor stripes after he was mutilated by the "groomer" I took him to. It's growing out and not looking so bad. I may keep it shorter like this...but I sure was mad at first.
Oh but once the words start they never stop and I mean NEVER!!!
But I know exactly what you mean about being worried he'll never talk especially the word "mama." I did a post about it myself back in January.
lol...co co muk...too cute! :)
Why on earth would co co muk disturb your doggie so much?
I think he talks just fine! As a matter of fact, he and I had a lengthy conversation earlier today while I was watching him! Although, I have to admit, I'm not exactly sure what he said...but it must have been something funny cause he sure laughed when he was done speaking!
He'll talk before you know it and then you'll wish he would be quiet! Remember how it was with the older kids?
Martie~ No, I don't remember. That's why I'm concerned.
Bainwen~ The dog freaks when I say Cocoa Milk, but co co muk doesn't bother him. I wonder if sounds like "get the mail" or "ride in the truck". Shrug.
Chesney~ I'll have to look up your old post. Our boys are only like 2 months apart, rigth?
Itchy~ Should they be speaking in sentance at 2? I wouldn't think so, but then again, I don't know much.
Renee~ Did you see, it was the same exact time!
Your dog is halarious! co co muk - now that is just too adorable. :)
The older kids said some words at this age and very clearly. But their actual words didn't come in until they were around 2 - 2 1/2. I don't think you should be fretting over this. He'll talk soon enough! Besides all kids devolope at different rates and stages! Hang in there, everything is fine, not to worry, Honey!
Don't fret a second about the talking, sistah. He's too smart for his own good and he's just waiting till he has something very profound to say. ;)
Poor Puppiedog. Send me a picture!
I don't know what's up with my daughter but holy crap. She just turned 2 and won't shut up! I think she is ahead of her time. She has been talking in sentences for a few months. I can't actually believe how much she says and how long of sentences she makes. I wouldn't worry about it though Naive...girls are smarter than boys! ;)
Everytime you write about Drew, I immediately flash back to the flip flops/underwear/vacuuming/neighbor experience. That was so funny! Man I love kids!
